Seed to Supper
Seed to Supper is a free, comprehensive seven-week comprehensive gardening course that is designed to give beginning gardeners the skills they need to grow a portion of their own food at home. Seed to Supper is specifically designed to help gardeners who are on a limited budget, and the program is free to individuals who meet income guidelines or who are honorably discharged service veterans.
In Butler County, Seed to Supper is a partnership between the Penn State Master Gardener Program and Community Partnership. The classes will be held every Tuesday evening from 6-8pm starting April 14th and running until May 19th. The classes will be held at the Artisan Resiliency Center, formerly the Artisan Catering Company Restaurant, 781 New Castle Road, Butler Pa 16001. In addition to learning how to start and take care of their gardens throughout the growing season, participants will also receive materials and seeds for their home gardens.
In addition to providing garden education and increased access to healthy foods, Seed to Supper providers learners with a transformative experience that increases individual and community food security by fostering food literacy, resiliency, community connectivity, and supportive social networks.

Applications for Seed to Supper can be downloaded here, along with the Food Security Matrix which can be downloaded here. Both documents can be dropped off at the Artisan Resiliency Center from 9am-3pm Monday through Friday. Applications can also be mailed to the following address: Community Partnership, c/o Seed to Supper, 781 I New Castle Road, Butler Pa 16001 along with copies of monthly oncome and/or proof of military service.
Seed Library
A seed library is a collection of different seeds that amateur and experienced gardeners alike can “borrow" to take home, grow, and enjoy. At the end of the growing season, participants are asked to save some seeds from their plants and share them with friends or donate them to the library for others to grow. Our seed library is located at The Butler Area Public Library, 218 N. McKean St., Butler, PA 16001.

Harvest Box
CP has several production gardens in Butler County where produce is grown to support our summer Harvest box. Our agricultural programs coordinator uses natural growing methods and pesticides are applied as little as possible.
The Harvest box includes spring and summer greens, root vegetables like radishes, carrots, potatoes, and beets, tomatoes, peppers, summer squashes, and other summer favorites. The box may also occasionally include herbs or edible flowers.
New for the 2024 growing season, we will be participating in seed trials in partnership with Seedlinked. We will be growing several different newly developed seed varieties and collecting information on performance and taste. Watch our social media accounts to see our progress throughout the summer. To be eligible for a Harvest box, your family must be income eligible. Family income cannot be higher than 200% of the federal poverty guidelines based on your family size. Copies of all household income must be included with your application when it is submitted, as well as a completed copy of the Food Security Matrix. A staff member will contact you to confirm or complete your enrollment once it has been received.

Veterans in Agriculture Grant Program
The Veterans in Agriculture grants are funded through the Pennsylvania Farm Bill. Veterans in Agriculture grants are mini-grants of up to $10,000 that can be awarded to farm operations owned by an honorably discharged service veteran.
Community Partnership’s Veterans in Agriculture grants target new and beginning farmers (farms in operation three years or less). Farms chosen to participate in the 2026cohort will participate in a beginning business model class, receive a mini-grant, and ongoing support and referrals for additional services throughout the year.
Community Partnership’s application process is competitive.
